It was a productive week in Washington. I participated in a Ways and Means Work and Welfare hearing focused on fostering innovative solutions to support the success of youth in foster care. I advanced my bipartisan bill out of committee with unanimous consent, and I voted to release the Epstein files because I believe the American people deserve full transparency. I also met with Indonesia’s new U.S. Ambassador to discuss advancing our economic ties and hopefully move the July trade framework between the U.S. and Indonesia toward a final agreement.

Rep. Yakym with Indonesia’s new U.S. Ambassador, Indroyono Soesilo.

IN WASHINGTON

I participated in a Ways and Means Work and Welfare hearing on Innovation for Foster Youth’s Success. During the hearing, I highlighted CarePortal, an organization that connects families with the physical resources they need through local partners. CarePortal currently operates in 24 counties in Indiana and is working to expand: “Government may not be able to love a child, but it can help ensure that organizations like CarePortal have the tools they need to support families. Time and again, we see neighbors and local partners stepping in to meet urgent needs. When a family gets the right help at the right moment, it can be the difference between keeping that family together and a child entering foster care.” Read more.

I voted to release the Epstein files because I believe in transparency with the Hoosiers I serve and the American people: “From the beginning, I’ve said that the American people deserve transparency, which is why I voted to release the files. I ran on a platform of openness and holding bad actors accountable, just as President Trump did. I remain committed to shining light where clarity is lacking and ensuring my constituents have the transparency they’re entitled to.” Read more.

Additionally, my bipartisan bill with Congressman Jimmy Panetta, the Studying NEPA's Impact on Projects Act (H.R. 573), advanced through the Natural Resources Committee under unanimous consent: “The Studying NEPA’s Impact on Projects Act is a commonsense step to bring needed transparency to a process that has too often stalled infrastructure, housing, and energy projects. By restoring these reports, and with the bipartisan work of Rep. Jimmy Panetta, we can better understand NEPA’s impact on jobs and investment and ensure recent reforms are truly working for the American people.” Read more.

IN THE DISTRICT

This week, our district team met with rural healthcare stakeholders to help ensure access and quality remain strong across Indiana. They also connected with a veteran-owned small business, supporting their plans to grow, add jobs, and continue investing in our state. In just one week, the team returned more than $850,000 to constituents, which is a powerful reminder of the impact dedicated service can have in our communities.

After 43 days, the longest government shutdown in American history has finally come to an end. Throughout this shutdown, I heard directly from Hoosiers about the strain it placed on families, service members, and businesses across Indiana’s Second District. The package of appropriations bills passed this week, together with House Republicans’ earlier continuing resolution, will reopen the government, fund critical programs like SNAP and WIC, and ensure our troops, federal workers, and air traffic controllers receive the pay they have earned. I voted to keep the government open, and I am proud to have voted to reopen it after Democrats chose to hold it hostage, putting politics over people while hardworking Americans suffered.

I also want to take a moment to explain how the shutdown happened and how we ended it.

On September 19th, the House of Representatives passed a clean Continuing Resolution (CR) to keep the government open and protect essential services for the American people. That measure was then sent to the Senate for consideration.

While House Republicans acted to prevent a shutdown, the Senate requires 60 votes to advance legislation. With 53 Republican Senators, at least seven Democrats needed to join Republicans to keep the government funded.

Instead, Senate Democrats voted 14 times to block efforts to end the shutdown. Their refusal to move the legislation forward caused a lapse in funding for essential programs such as SNAP and WIC, and it denied paychecks to our troops, federal employees, and air traffic controllers. These Americans never should have been caught in the middle of a political standoff.

After more than 40 days, eight Senate Democrats finally joined Republicans to pass the legislation and send it back to the House, who voted to end the shutdown. President Trump then signed the bill, officially bringing the shutdown to an end.

The newly amended package will fund the government through January, restore funding for vital programs like SNAP and WIC, and ensure timely pay for our military and federal workforce. In addition, it provides full-year funding for the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and military construction, while Congress continues negotiations on the remaining appropriations bills.

I voted to keep the government open, and I was proud to vote on Wednesday night to reopen it. I will continue working every day to make Indiana’s Second District the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

***********************************************************************************************

This week, Democrats shut down the federal government. I voted to keep it open, and in this week’s wrap up I want to walk you through what’s really happening in Washington.

There’s no way around it: Democrats have taken their political games too far and shut down the government.

Let me pull back the curtain and explain what’s really going on.

Two weeks ago, House Republicans passed a clean continuing resolution (CR). Think of a CR like putting gas in the tank to get to the next station. It is not a permanent fix, but it keeps the engine running while Congress finishes bipartisan negotiations on long-term funding. Ours gave seven more weeks to complete the job responsibly. Now the measure is in the Senate, and because of Senate rules it requires 60 votes to pass. That means that since there are only 53 Senate Republicans, Democrats will need to join Republicans in supporting it.

Democrats rejected that common-sense approach. Instead, they offered their own version stuffed with $1.5 trillion of American taxpayer money in new spending. Their bill was not about keeping the government open; it was about forcing through a wish list: reinstating free healthcare for illegal aliens, a $50 billion cut to rural healthcare, and billions for DEI and climate projects overseas. That’s not governing, it’s opportunism.

The clean CR only looks “partisan” because Democrats chose to make it that way. Remember, they supported the same kind of short-term extensions 13 different times during the Biden administration. The only thing that changed is their politics.

Hoosiers sent a clear message in November: they wanted Republican leadership to deliver real change. And we have. We made the 2017 tax cuts permanent. We secured the border. We ended taxes on tips and overtime. We helped Main Street businesses keep more of what they earn. We restored immediate expensing. And we passed the largest spending cut in American history. Democrats cannot defend that progress, so they’re trying to roll it back by shutting down the government.

That’s not what Hoosiers voted for, and it’s not what I promised. I promised to work with President Trump and get America back on track, and that means standing against the old Washington game of reckless spending.

Everyone should agree on this much: our troops deserve to be paid. TSA agents and border patrol deserve their paychecks. Families who rely on food assistance deserve stability. That ends if Democrats continue blocking the clean CR Republicans put forward.

The choice is simple. Keep the government running, or keep playing politics. It’s time to stop the games and do right by the American people.

Again, it is an honor to serve you. Your insights are critical to me as I work to solve the challenges facing our country and advance commonsense, Hoosier values in our nation’s capital.

My second week in session this month was marked by both progress and heartbreak.

On the legislative front, the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), ensuring that the United States maintains the most capable and prepared fighting force in the world. We also passed the Stop Illegal Entry Act of 2025, strengthening penalties for repeat offenders who unlawfully cross our borders. Additionally, I participated in a Ways and Means Joint Subcommittee Hearing focused on removing barriers so Americans with disabilities have the choice and opportunity to work.

Tragically, the week was overshadowed by an act of senseless political violence. Charlie Kirk was assassinated while hosting a campus forum in Utah. His death is a devastating loss for the conservative movement and for countless young Americans he inspired. As we mourn Charlie’s passing, we also paused to remember the 24th anniversary of September 11th, a solemn reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring resilience of the American spirit.

Rep. Yakym's statement on the political assassination of Charlie Kirk.

IN WASHINGTON

The House officially passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2026: “The passage of the NDAA marks a vital step in ensuring the United States maintains the most capable and ready fighting force in the world. Our highest responsibility is safeguarding this nation against all current and future threats. By codifying President Trump’s executive orders, strengthening border security, and better equipping our servicemembers, this NDAA makes America stronger and more secure.” Read more.

We also passed the Stop Illegal Entry Act of 2025. This bill amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to increase penalties for unlawful reentry after deportation. Stronger borders mean a safer America. See more.

At the Ways and Means Subcommittee hearing on Untapped Talent, I stressed the importance of improving return-to-work processes for SSI beneficiaries and ensuring individuals can save in ABLE accounts without losing benefits. America should always be the land of opportunity for every citizen. Read more.

I spoke in a legislative hearing on my bill, H.R. 573, which restores essential reporting on project delays caused by NEPA litigation. This transparency will help Congress pursue real reforms to get infrastructure projects moving faster.

I had the privilege of meeting Hoosier heroes on the Honor Flight Northeast Indiana, made possible in part by the Walorski Family Foundation. Jackie was a tireless advocate for veterans, and I am proud to help carry on her legacy. See more.

Alongside HUD Secretary Scott Turner and Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, I joined the 2025 Innovative Housing Showcase to discuss expanding homeownership and driving innovation in affordable housing. See more.

This week, our district team has been hard at work meeting with local health systems to ensure rural healthcare remains protected and continues to grow. We also convened a childcare access roundtable, where we highlighted the new provisions in the Working Families Tax Cut that will better support families across our communities. In addition, we met with Pulaski County officials to discuss local priorities and opportunities, and we held our regular office hours to stay connected and accessible to constituents.

This week marked my first week back in Washington after a wonderful August spent traveling across the District and meeting Hoosiers where they live and work. While in Washington, I delivered a floor speech highlighting our One Big Beautiful Hoosier Tour, voted to hold Chinese fentanyl traffickers accountable, participated in a Ways and Means roundtable, and welcomed Hoosiers visiting the Capitol.

Rep. Yakym meets with Hoosiers visiting the Capitol in Washington D.C.

IN WASHINGTON

I spoke on the House floor about our One Big Beautiful Hoosier Tour and highlighted how the Working Families Tax Cut shows that when the government steps back and families keep more of what they earn, there’s no limit to what we can accomplish together. Watch the full speech here.

I voted for the Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act of 2025 to crack down on Chinese fentanyl traffickers: “Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18 to 45, and as a father of three, I am determined to stop its deadly flow. The House passed the Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act of 2025, empowering the U.S. to sanction Chinese individuals and organizations behind the production and trafficking of synthetic opioids. From securing our border to holding China accountable, we are taking every step to stop the flow of this deadly drug and protect American lives.” Read more.

I also took part in a bipartisan Ways and Means Committee roundtable with Mexico’s Secretary of the Economy, Marcelo Ebrard. During the discussion, I emphasized the importance of Mexico keeping its market open to American agricultural exports, including corn, and ensuring that Mexico does not become a backdoor for a flood of Chinese exports.

After four incredible weeks, I have officially wrapped up the One Big Beautiful Hoosier Tour. Over the past month, I’ve traveled across all 11 counties of Indiana’s Second District multiple times, meeting with farmers, small business owners, manufacturers, and families. Everywhere I went, one thing was clear: the One Big Beautiful Bill is already delivering for Hoosiers.

This tour has shown me once again that the strength of Indiana lies in its people — our farmers, our workers, our small business owners, and our families. The One Big Beautiful Bill was written for you and because of you. Together, we are proving that when Hoosiers keep more of what they earn, there’s no limit to what we can achieve.

Rep. Yakym visits the Mishawaka Walmart to hear from the team about how recent price drops under President Trump have boosted consumer spending.

This week in Washington, I had the opportunity to participate in crucial discussions that will shape our nation’s future. I met with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to review recent and upcoming trade agreements, participated in a Ways and Means Subcommittee hearing on Medicare Advantage, and joined President Trump and my House colleagues at the White House to celebrate the passage of the historic One Big Beautiful Bill.

Congressman Yakym meets with the Indiana Soybean Alliance.

IN WASHINGTON

I joined a meeting with United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, where we discussed recent and future trade deals: “We had a productive conversation with Ambassador Greer. I’m encouraged by this week’s trade deal announcements with Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines. These agreements will reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers for farmers, medical device makers, and manufacturers across Indiana’s Second District. I’m also hopeful for progress in talks with Indonesia on critical imports not found in the U.S., especially lauan wood, which is vital to the RV industry. I look forward to working with this administration to keep delivering real results, by standing up to global competitors and protecting American workers.” Read more.

During a Ways and Means Joint Subcommittee Hearing on Medicare Advantage, I highlighted the need to continue to improve Medicare Advantage: “Medicare Advantage has transformed healthcare for our seniors, delivering better outcomes and wider access. But with progress must come responsibility. We owe it to taxpayers, providers, and beneficiaries to keep improving efficiency and reducing red tape.” Read more.

I also joined President Trump and House Republicans at the White House to celebrate the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill. In the first six months of the Trump Administration, they have been delivering on their promises from securing the border to lowering gas prices and unleashing American energy, and we’re just getting started. See more.

The highlight of the week was meeting with Hoosiers visiting our nation’s capital. From talking with families touring D.C. to meeting with Owlet, whose product helped inspire Bo’s Act, a bill I recently reintroduced in honor of Jackie Walorski, it was a meaningful and inspiring week. Bo’s story and the Newton family’s advocacy continue to drive this important effort to expand access to life-saving infant technology. Read more.

Congressman Yakym meets with Hoosiers visiting Washington.

IN THE DISTRICT

July was a busy month across the district, and we’re proud of the progress made. We kicked things off by meeting with business leaders in St. Joseph County to hear directly from them about local priorities and opportunities for growth. We also supported grant initiatives for three organizations doing outstanding work in our communities, helping them access the resources they need to continue moving forward.

One of the biggest wins this month was helping secure a historic investment in Starke County, a major step toward improving local infrastructure and driving long-term economic development. Throughout the month, our team held regular office hours to stay accessible and connected to residents, and we successfully closed out 20 constituent cases, ensuring that folks received the help and answers they needed.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to keep showing up and delivering results for the district.

This week was jam-packed as we delivered on our promises to the American people.

The House of Representatives passed a $9 billion rescissions package to eliminate government waste, fraud, and abuse, a key step to restoring fiscal responsibility to Washington. We also passed the Defense Appropriations Act of 2026, ensuring that the United States maintains a strong national defense. Additionally, we celebrated Crypto Week by passing several pro-crypto bills.

I also introduced two important pieces of legislation: one to ensure individuals who voluntarily go on strike are ineligible for unemployment benefits, and a bipartisan common sense resolution condemning the slogan, “Globalize the Intifada.”

Congressman Yakym meets with Indiana FFA members in Washington.

IN WASHINGTON

The House of Representatives passed the $9 billion rescissions package to eliminate government waste, fraud, and abuse: “Hoosiers deserve to keep more of what they earn, and that begins with holding Washington accountable. The $9 billion rescissions package cuts waste, fraud, and abuse and is a key step in delivering on the promises of President Trump and House Republicans to restore fiscal responsibility to Washington.” Read more.

We passed the Defense Appropriations Act of 2026 to support a strong, efficient, and well-equipped military: “America is home to the most lethal and capable fighting force in the world, and the Defense Appropriations Act ensures it stays that way. This legislation renews peace through strength by reinforcing our military superiority, streamlining the Department of Defense for greater efficiency and effectiveness, securing our borders, supporting our service members and their families, and advancing the America First agenda.” Read more.

During Crypto Week, the House passed several pro-crypto bills, including the Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act (H.R. 1919), which prohibits the creation and use of a central bank digital currency, protecting Americans’ financial privacy: “As America navigates the rise of digital assets, these bills help ensure the U.S. continues leading the way in cryptocurrency and financial innovation by fostering innovation while setting clear boundaries for regulation and corporate accountability. They seek to create a future where cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and other digital assets can thrive under thoughtful regulation that protects individual privacy, promotes transparency, and ensures that technological progress does not come at the expense of financial freedom or consumer trust.” Read more.

I introduced the Securing Help for Involuntary Employment Loss and Displacement (SHIELD) Act to ensure individuals who voluntarily go on strike are not eligible for unemployment benefits: “Choosing not to work is just that, a choice. While far-left states like Oregon and Washington are busy handing out unemployment checks like participation trophies to anyone who walks off the job, the SHIELD Act puts an end to that nonsense. These radical policies disrupt the labor market, let workers walk off the job without consequences, and leave small businesses high and dry. If you choose to strike, you don’t get to collect a check from hardworking Americans, plain and simple.” Read more.

I was proud to join Representative Josh Gottheimer in introducing a bipartisan resolution condemning the slogan “Globalize the Intifada:” “There are no two sides about the meaning of ‘Globalize the Intifada.’ Condemning it should be common sense, but some would rather play politics than tell the truth. The violence and hatred directed at Jewish and Israeli people is reprehensible. No one, especially in America, should have to live in fear for their safety, or even their life, because of their religion or ethnicity. I’m proud to lead this bipartisan resolution alongside my friend, Representative Gottheimer.” Read more.

Of course, the highlight of the week was meeting with Hoosiers visiting our nation's capital. From conversations with FFA students to seeing families who were visiting, nothing beats having folks from back home here in Washington.

  • Gives much needed $10K bonuses to our Border Patrol and ICE agents on the front lines, for the next 4-years.
  • Updates our air traffic control system to ensure Americans fly safely and efficiently.
  • Invests in American shipbuilding and modernizes our military.

This is what it looks like to put America First and keep our promises to the people. I’m proud to continue working alongside President Trump to make America great again.

IN THE DISTRICT

Before returning to Washington to help pass this historic legislation, I had the honor of hosting Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer in Goshen, Indiana, the Manufacturing Capital of America. Together, we toured Brinkley RV and joined local leaders for a roundtable on workforce development, job growth, and the next generation of American manufacturing.

“It’s an honor to welcome my friend, Secretary of Labor Chavez-DeRemer, to the Manufacturing Capital of America. Her dedication to strengthening our workforce, fueling job creation, and cutting red tape is exactly what we need to lead the next chapter of American manufacturing. I’m especially grateful to Brinkley RV for hosting us today and showcasing the kind of innovation and excellence that defines Indiana’s Second District.”
We saw firsthand the innovation, grit, and talent that define Indiana’s Second District. With leaders like Secretary Chavez-DeRemer and companies like Brinkley RV, we’re not just talking about the future of American manufacturing, we’re building it." Read more.

I had a very busy week in Washington, including a Social Security hearing, the passage of funding for military construction and veterans affairs programs, a condemnation of the riots in Los Angeles, attendance at a Congressional Gold Medal ceremony honoring two of the five living WWII Army Rangers, and meeting with Hoosiers visiting Washington.

Congressman Yakym and Congresswoman Scholten with members of the Boys and Girls Club after introducing their resolution to make June 23-27, National Boys & Girls Club Week.

IN WASHINGTON

In a hearing with Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano, I called out former Social Security Commissioner Martin O’Malley inaccurate claim that Social Security would collapse within 30 to 90 days: “It is downright reckless for disgraced Biden officials to peddle baseless conspiracy theories that Republicans are out to destroy Social Security. Americans deserve the truth, not scare tactics from partisan bureaucrats trying to cover for their own failures. While Democrats waste time fearmongering, Republicans like me are focused on real solutions. We are working with Commissioner Bisignano to protect and strengthen Social Security and to clean up the mess left behind over the last four years.” Read more.

I introduced a bipartisan resolution with Congresswoman Hillary Scholten to designate June 23-27 “National Boys & Girls Club Week: “The Boys & Girls Clubs of America are a beacon of hope, opportunity, and mentorship for communities across Indiana and our nation. As a proud supporter and past St. Joe County Board Chair, I’ve witnessed firsthand the profound impact these clubs have on shaping the next generation of leaders. I’m grateful to work alongside Rep. Scholten to recognize their contributions and remain committed to expanding opportunities for every child to succeed.” Read more.

I voted to support the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies (MILCON-VA) Appropriations Act. This invests in our national security, modernizes our military infrastructure, and takes care of our service men and women and veterans. See more.

Additionally, I voted to condemn the LA Riots: “Burning cars, attacking law enforcement, and looting businesses is not peaceful protesting. What we saw during the LA riots is exactly what happens in a Democrat-run sanctuary city. Nearly 200 Democrats voted against condemning this violence and protecting public safety. While Republicans are the party of law and order, Democrats are the party of lawlessness and criminal aliens.” Read more.

I had the honor of attending a Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony that honored two of the five living WWII Army Rangers. I’m forever grateful for their service and sacrifice. See more.

Lastly, I met with Notre Dame students interning in D.C. this summer. It was extra special to have our intern, Michael, lead the conversation. The future’s bright for the next generation of Irish! See more.

IN THE DISTRICT

Our team has been hard at work across the district. We had the honor of attending a naturalization ceremony to welcome new U.S. citizens. We also expanded our accessibility by holding office hours in multiple counties, ensuring constituents can connect with us directly. In St. Joseph County, we met with Commissioners and Council members to discuss ongoing investment and development. And as always, we're continuing to fight for Hoosiers through dedicated casework and constituent services.

IN THE DISTRICT

This week, I had a productive meeting with leaders from the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce to discuss the Benham Neighborhood initiative. I also had the pleasure of connecting with Elkhart City Councilwoman LaTonya King to explore how we can collaborate on initiatives that directly benefit residents.

A special moment this week was surprising WNDU’s Mark Peterson live on air with a copy of the Congressional Record honoring his 40 years of dedicated service to journalism in northern Indiana. Mark has been a trusted voice for decades, and his retirement marks the end of an era in local news. See more.

I had the opportunity to tour Ben’s Soft Pretzels and meet the incredible team behind their success. Their continued growth and investment in our district are a true testament to the strength and resilience of our local businesses. See more.

I also visited Heart City Health, where I met with dedicated healthcare professionals who are on the front lines delivering quality, affordable care to those who need it. It was inspiring to witness their compassion and commitment in action. See more.

In addition, I hosted a policy-focused lunch with Americans for Prosperity, where we had an engaging discussion about the importance of advancing the One Big Beautiful Bill and what it means for the future of our economy. See more.

Given the troubling rise in antisemitism and ongoing developments in the Middle East, I sat down with the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley to hear their perspectives, reaffirm my support, and stand in solidarity with the Jewish community.

We had a busy and productive week in Washington—from holding a hearing with Treasury Secretary Bessent, to attending a bill signing at the White House, and the House passing a $9.4 billion rescission package. But without a doubt, the best part of the week was having my family by my side here in D.C.

IN WASHINGTON

I had the pleasure of welcoming Indiana’s Second District Congressional Art Competition Winner, Bremen High School student, Bellamy Gratrix to the Capitol: “It’s a true privilege to welcome Bellamy and her family to the Capitol in recognition of this outstanding achievement. Her artwork is a shining example of the creativity and talent we’re so proud of in Indiana’s Second District. It’s an honor to see her work representing our community in the heart of our nation’s capital.” Read more.

On Wednesday, the Ways and Means Committee held a hearing with Treasury Secretary Bessent where we discussed the threat of Chinese overcapacity: “China’s industrial overcapacity is not just flooding our markets with cheap goods. It is a direct threat to American workers, manufacturers, and long-term economic security. I applaud Secretary Bessent and the administration for recognizing this danger and taking meaningful steps to address it. Their efforts to coordinate with Canada and Mexico and reinforce Fortress North America are exactly the kind of leadership we need to protect our supply chains and our sovereignty.” Read more.

I also participated in a Ways and Means Work and Welfare Subcommittee hearing, where I spotlighted the success of fellow Hoosier Dr. Maggie Stevens and Foster Success, a nonprofit that equips teens and young adults as they transition from foster care to adulthood: “Dr. Stevens and the Foster Success model have achieved outcomes nearly 10% higher than the national average for older foster youth completing credential programs. To better support foster youth and improve federal accountability, we must reform funding formulas to ensure resources are directed where they’re needed most.” Read more.

I had the opportunity to attend a bill signing at the White House that puts an end to California’s extreme electric vehicle mandates. This new law marks the beginning of a stronger future for American auto and RV manufacturing. See more.

On Thursday the House of Representatives officially passed the $9.4B rescissions package, a key step toward eliminating government waste, fraud, and abuse. See more.

This week, we launched and completed our "Highlighting Hoosier Heroes" Tour, a meaningful journey across all 11 counties of Indiana’s Second District to recognize the everyday heroes who make our communities strong and resilient.

From Memorial Day ceremonies to visits with first responders and healthcare professionals, I was reminded of the incredible people who serve with quiet strength and unwavering commitment.

Congressman Yakym meets with the Wounded Warrior Project in St. Joseph County.

IN THE DISTRICT

Throughout the week, I had the privilege of meeting with and honoring Hoosiers whose courage and dedication reflect the very best of our state.

Congressman Yakym meets with veterans at the South Bend Cubs game and speaks at the Memorial Day ceremony in Nappanee.

Memorial Day: I was honored to speak at the Memorial Day Ceremony in Nappanee, where we paid tribute to the brave men and women who gave everything for our country. Their sacrifice defends the freedoms we hold dear and will never be forgotten.

Recognizing Local Heroes: On Tuesday, I presented two exceptional Hoosiers with a copy of the Congressional Record in recognition of their recent acts of heroism and service. Deputy Chris Parish showed tremendous courage and quick thinking in April, saving a life through fearless actions. I also recognized Chief Ryleigh Carr, whose service as a coach, school resource officer, and now as Chief of the Community Police Department has left a lasting impact. Her recent award of the Regional Exceptional Service Award for Region 5 is a reflection of her tireless work to protect and uplift others.

Supporting First Responders: I visited the Hamlet Fire and Police Departments to express my gratitude for their critical role in keeping our communities safe and to better understand the challenges they face.

Honoring Healthcare Workers: On Thursday, I visited Elkhart General Hospital and brought breakfast to some of our frontline medical professionals. These heroes in scrubs work around the clock to care for our families and deserve our deepest thanks.

Working with Our Veterans: I hosted a gathering for local veterans at Mission BBQ, followed by a lunch meeting in Rochester with Veteran Service Officers. It was a valuable opportunity to hear directly from those who serve our veteran community and to discuss ways we can improve care and resources for those who served our country.

Saluting WWII Veterans: We wrapped up the week with a special coffee event honoring World War II veterans. Listening to their stories and thanking them in person was one of the most meaningful moments of the tour.

This week confirmed what I’ve always known. We are blessed with extraordinary people here in Indiana’s Second District. I will continue working in Congress to honor their service and to support the everyday heroes who make our state such a special place to call home.

After a great week back in Indiana visiting Hoosier heroes across the district, I returned to Washington this week. Our focus remains on working with the Senate and the President to get our One Big Beautiful Bill to the President's desk, which will deliver tax relief, cut federal spending, and permanently secure the border.

IN WASHINGTON

I introduced a bipartisan resolution to designate June 2-8 as National Trailer Safety Week: “I’m proud to put forward this resolution highlighting the critical importance of trailer safety. In northern Indiana, the manufacturers I represent build everything from towable RVs to cargo and horse trailers. Promoting safe towing practices is key to keeping our roads safer and making sure people across the country can continue to enjoy the many advantages trailers offer.” Read more.

This week, I voted to support the “Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act” (H.R. 2931) and the “American Entrepreneurs First Act” (H.R. 2966), two bills focused on ensuring federal small business aid goes to American citizens and law-abiding communities, not sanctuary cities or illegal immigrants: “Taxpayer-funded small business aid should go to Americans who follow the law and grow our economy, not to sanctuary cities that defy it. These bills put American entrepreneurs first and ensure federal resources go where they belong.” Read more.

We also received a rescission package to eliminate over $9 billion in wasteful spending. This is a key step toward building a more efficient and accountable government. See more.

I also had the opportunity to meet with several Hoosiers who were visiting DC, including those who came with the RV Industry Association. Elkhart, Indiana, is known as the RV Capital of the World, and I enjoyed discussing our shared priorities to maintain that distinction. See more.

Congressman Yakym Releases Statement on President Trump’s Joint Address

Mar 05, 2025Press

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tonight, Congressman Rudy Yakym (IN-02) released a statement following President Donald Trump’s joint address to congress:

“Tonight, President Trump delivered a speech filled with hope and a powerful reminder that the American Dream is alive and stronger than ever, regardless of Democrat theatrics,” said Rep. Yakym. “After four years of failed leadership under Joe Biden, we are witnessing the transformative results of strong leadership—securing our border, reining in reckless spending, achieving energy dominance, restoring America’s strength on the global stage, and bringing common sense back to our nation. This is just the beginning of America’s new Golden Age.”
